CHRIS:  Get your cultural history on at the 702-acre Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon, Georgia.  This land was inhabited by American Indians, who arrived thousands of years ago, during the Paleo-Indian Period (approximately 10,000 years BCE).  The mounds they constructed are still in existence and can be reached on foot.  Get your exercise on 5 and a half miles of walking trail.  Explore the visitor center, archeology museum and gift shop.  Finally, visit the reconstructed ceremonial earthlodge, which is based on a 1000 year old structure excavated by archeologists.

CHRIS: Did you know:  A. That jousting is the world’s oldest equestrian sport (first match recorded in 1066), and B. That it is Maryland’s official state sport?  It was named so in 1962. Not sure if competitions are aired on ESPN or what.  You might have to travel to the state.

NANCY:  For someone like me, who loves Christmas so much that the tree will be up all year long, like an overgrown plant with lights, this would have killed me.  From 1659 to 1681, the Puritan authorities in Boston, Massachusetts made celebrations of Christmas illegal. The reasons have been investigated, and it seems to be (from my limited research) a matter of holier than thou attitudes and wanting to control behavior and the social order.  I hope they all got lots and lots of coal in their stockings.

Experience:  This is a high-level position with P&L responsibility. Candidates should have hands-on experience and current knowledge of all aspects of import customs brokerage, from classification to post-entry and SOP creation. 
CHRIS: With depths ranging from 160 to 240 feet, the Passaic River in New Jersey received the first modern submarine launch on May 22, 1878.  The inventor was an Irish immigrant named John Philip Holland, aka “The Father of the Modern Submarine.”  His vessel, aptly named Holland Boat No.1, successfully went down 12 feet in its first test run.  Subsequent vessels were designed, built and tested over the years. In  November 1899, 21 and a half years after the first launch, the Holland VI was tested by the US Naval Board of Inspection and performed flawlessly.  The Navy purchased the submarine for $165,000. What a way to kick off a new century!
